Instagram Plus is Meta's new $3.99/month subscription, rolling out globally since early June 2026. Here's every Instagram Plus feature confirmed so far, and exactly how to get it on your account.
Instagram Plus is a paid subscription tier for Instagram, priced at $3.99 a month. Meta announced it alongside a twin offering, Facebook Plus, in late May 2026, and detailed the full feature set in early June before rolling it out globally starting June 4. The free version of Instagram isn't changing -- Instagram Plus is a separate, opt-in layer on top of it, not a replacement or a paywall on existing functionality.
The rollout has been staged rather than instant: some accounts saw the option to subscribe before others in the same country, and Meta has said it plans to add more Instagram Plus features in the months following launch. So the current list is a starting point, not the finished product.
Meta has grouped the features into three buckets: getting closer to who matters, seeing previews and insights, and making Instagram yours.
- Unlimited custom audience lists -- go beyond the single Close Friends list and create as many separate story audiences as you want
- 48-hour stories -- subscribers can make their stories last twice as long as the standard 24 hours
- Anonymous story previews -- watch other people's stories without it registering as a view, so you can preview without the pressure to react
- Rewatch insights -- see how many times someone rewatched your story, not just that they viewed it once
- Searchable viewer list -- quickly check whether a specific person viewed your story instead of scrolling the full list
- Super Hearts -- an animated, more prominent reaction you can send on friends' stories
- Weekly Spotlight boost -- a recurring visibility boost for your content
- Custom app icons for the Instagram app itself
- Custom fonts for your profile bio
- More pinned posts on your profile than the free tier allows
- The ability to post to your profile or highlights without it appearing in friends' feeds
None of these change how the core feed, DMs, or Reels work. The feature set is concentrated almost entirely in Stories and profile presentation, which lines up with the subscription's target audience: people who post stories often and care about who's watching them.
Signing up happens directly in the app through your own profile -- there's no separate app to download or website to visit. The general path is: open Instagram, go to your profile, and look for an "Instagram Plus" or "Subscribe" prompt in your settings or profile menu. Tapping through walks you into the $3.99/month purchase flow.
If you don't see the option yet, that's expected rather than a sign something's wrong. The rollout is gradual by design, and availability varies by region and by account even within the same country. Meta hasn't published a fixed schedule for full availability, so the most reliable fix is to make sure the app is fully updated and check back periodically.
That depends entirely on how much of your Instagram use is story-based. The rewatch insights, searchable viewer list, and anonymous previews are aimed squarely at people who post stories frequently and are curious about engagement -- creators, small business accounts, or heavy story users. If you rarely post stories or don't care who's rewatching them, the current feature set doesn't have much for you yet. The profile customization extras (app icon, bio font, extra pinned posts) are minor on their own.
$3.99/month puts it in line with other small, single-app feature subscriptions that have become common across social platforms in 2026, rather than at the price point of a full product tier.
Meta has been explicit that this is a starting lineup, not a finished one -- more Instagram Plus features are expected in the months following the June 2026 launch. Facebook Plus launched the same week at the same price, suggesting Meta is testing this subscription model across its apps rather than treating Instagram Plus as a one-off. Anyone deciding whether to subscribe now is really deciding whether today's feature list is worth it on its own, since what's included is likely to keep expanding.
